Zabit Magomedsharipov Books Return After Seven Years
Former UFC featherweight contender Zabit Magomedsharipov has locked in a comeback fight for the end of August.
Magomedsharipov will face active UFC fighter Youssef Zalal in a grappling match at ACBJJ 22 on Aug. 30 in Istanbul, Turkey, according to Sherdog. The bout marks the Russian's first competitive appearance since he walked away from MMA following a 2019 decision win over Calvin Kattar.
Magomedsharipov's UFC Exit and Comeback Attempt
The Dagestani built a reputation as one of the most exciting prospects in the featherweight division between 2017 and 2019, stringing together highlight finishes and dynamic striking displays. His run stalled when a planned fight with Yair Rodriguez collapsed, and he quietly left the sport.
Magomedsharipov was slated to return in a grappling match against Raul Rosas Jr. last month but pulled out with an injury. Zalal enters off the first loss of his current UFC run, dropping a decision to Aljamain Sterling in April after winning eight straight.
The Istanbul card also features Kerim Engizek and Belal Muhammad on the grappling slate.
