Wilder Vs. Chisora Breakdown

Deontay Wilder will face Derek Chisora on April 4, as we preview this fight.

The bout marks a monumental 50th professional appearance for both men. After a difficult stretch that included losses to Joseph Parker and a knockout at the hands of Zhilei Zhang, Wilder got back on track in June 2025 with a seventh-round TKO victory over Tyrrell Anthony Herndon.

For the 42-year-old Chisora, this is widely expected to be his "fairwell" bout on British soil. "Del Boy" is currently on a three-fight hot streak, most recently out-grinding Otto Wallin in a unanimous decision victory in February 2025.

Pre-Fight

"When you get to 40, there is nothing else to prove. Now, you have a lovely meal softly and quietly, you drink chardonnay and wine. In your 40s you drink good wine. In your 20s and 30s you drink sambuca! "In your 40s you don’t drink sambuca because you know it will take months to recover! "The way we want to sell this fight? I don’t want to bring something out which isn’t there. "I can guarantee [in the fight] it won’t be friendly," Chisora said

“I’ve already told him, ‘I want you to try to kill me, you understand me?’ He looked at me weird, [but] I need that because we can do this. I’m proven, because I also had a brother that I fought and told him the same thing. It’s gonna be the last time we talk. The next time we see each other, we’re gonna be in each other’s face. We’re gonna be at war, because I need at that point of time to turn it off," Wilder said

The Approach

Expect Wilder to be surprisingly mobile in the early rounds, using lateral movement to prevent Chisora from pinning him against the ropes—a position where Wilder looked vulnerable in his losses to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang. If Wilder can replicate the body-head combinations he showed in his last fight, he can sap Chisora’s gas tank and set up the straight right hand as "Del Boy" begins to tire in the middle rounds

Chisora’s path to victory involves using head movement to slip under Wilder’s jab, and burying his head in Wilder’s chest to negate the American’s punching leverage. By forcing a high-paced fight, Chisora aims to exploit Wilder’s struggles with fighting on the back foot. If he can land the same overhand right that dropped Wallin twice, he could potentially provide the fans with a stoppage.
