What's Next For Joseph Parker After Failed VADA Test?
Former WBO Heavyweight world champion Joseph Parker tested positive for cocaine on the day of his Fabio Wardley fight, as he will likely face disciplinary action.
Reports indicate that Parker’s failed Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency (VADA) test on October 25 showed that cocaine was in his system. Parker lost the fight as he was knocked out in the 11th round, losing his WBO Interim Heavyweight Title. The defeat meant he was no longer mandatory for the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion Oleksandr Usyk next. VADA will forward their findings to UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) and the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC). Parker could get a ban for up to two years, as the boxing public wait to see the outcome.

Reaction
"The Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) last night informed all required parties that Joseph Parker returned an adverse finding following an anti-doping test conducted on October 25 in relation to his bout with Fabio Wardley. While the matter is investigated further, no additional comment will be made at this time," VADA said
"Before my recent fight, I took a voluntary test and have now been informed that it returned an adverse result. This came as a real surprise to me. I did not take any prohibited substance, I do not use performance-enhancing drugs and do not support their use. I am co-operating fully with the process now underway and I am confident the investigation will clear my name," Parker stated

A lengthy ban would force Parker to miss a significant portion of his prime years. He would need to return against a lower-tier opponent to address ring rust and rebuild his ranking before he could re-enter the top 10. Conversely, a short ban of three to six months represents the optimal scenario, allowing him to quickly schedule a return in mid-2026.

Regardless of the length of the ban, Parker’s market value will be significantly impacted. Having previously been the consensus No. 1 contender prior to the Wardley fight, he will now be forced to fight his way back into position against a field that includes younger, dangerous prospects like Moses Itauma. Upon his eventual return, the entire boxing public will be scrutinizing his performance, requiring him to deliver a decisive victory against a ranked opponent to prove his focus and dedication are back on track.
