What's Next For Dubois After Beating Wardley
Daniel Dubois is a two-time heavyweight champion, as he recovered from two knockdowns to stop Fabio Wardley in the eleventh round, claiming the WBO heavyweight title as we look at who he could face next.
Dubois finished a fighter who had not been stopped before in over twenty professional outings, as he silenced his critics. The win raises an immediate and compelling question about where Dubois goes next.
Moses Itauma is the most intriguing option. The unbeaten 21-year-old has been building steadily and holds WBO mandatory challenger status, and a fight between him and Dubois would pit two of British heavyweight boxing's most exciting names against each other.
Agit Kabayel offers a credible European matchup with genuine stakes. He has built a strong record and would represent a solid defence of the WBO title, though the appetite from fans would likely be greater for one of the other options available.
Tyson Fury sits at WBC number one despite a 1-2 record over his last three fights, two losses to Usyk, a retirement, and a comeback win over Arslan Makhmudov. A Dubois versus Fury fight would be commercially enormous. However, Frank Warren has said that Wardley has a rematch clause with Dubois, meaning that is likely next.
“These two guys showed such heart and chins. It was an amazing fight that had everything. There’s a rematch clause in the contract. Let’s let the dust settle in the heavyweight division. Then we’ll see,” Warren said
