WBC Unveils Custom Belt For Garcia vs. Benn
The WBC welterweight title fight between Ryan Garcia and Conor Benn will feature more hardware than just the champion's regular strap.
The World Boxing Council announced this week that Saturday's bout in Las Vegas comes with a one-off Tollan Topiltzin belt for the winner, plus a diamond-encrusted ring that could rival a Super Bowl champion's hardware, MMA Mania reports. The WBC described the custom prize as "a tribute to greatness, heritage, and craftsmanship" made from natural obsidian, genuine leather, and gold-plated accents honoring the ancient Toltec capital.
Garcia Defends Title Against Benn
Garcia captured the welterweight belt earlier this year with a lopsided decision over Mario Barrios and now makes his first defense. Benn chases his first major world title. The pair have traded barbs for months leading into the fight, with Garcia escalating the mind games earlier this week by skipping a planned Las Vegas faceoff to stay home and play video games instead.
Despite the no-show, Garcia told reporters he is not overlooking the British challenger and expects Benn to arrive in top form with no excuses. The custom belt and ring await the victor Saturday night.
