In the latest boxing news, Frank Warren will appeal the WBA’s decision to dismiss Daniel Dubois’ appeal against his Oleksandr Usyk loss.

The appeal came in response to Dubois’ punch in the fifth round being declared a low blow. The decision allowed Usyk over three minutes to recover before the Ukrainian stopped the Brit in the ninth round.

The decision deprived Dubois the opportunity to become the unified heavyweight champion of the world. In the aftermath of the fight, the decision divided the boxing community with opinions on both sides.

Reaction To Dubois’ Punch

"It WAS low, weather his protector is high or not(which should of been pulled at the start of the fight if team Dubious felt it was high) it’s just below waistband. Ye, Usyk milked the time he was allowed but, no one can answer weather he stays down it the ref counts it," Liam Smith

"Dubois should be champion after that body shot, definitely wasn’t a low blow. Usyk didn’t like and took full advantage of the time given to recover. Did Dubois give up there & Quit or was it just a great Jab," Josh Taylor

Thereafter, Warren lodged an appeal with the hope of getting the loss overturned and an immediate rematch. The WBA responded by dismissing the appeal, much to the dismay of Dubois.

"On September 4, the company representing Dubois emailed the WBA. They indicated that Queensberry desired to have the outcome of the bout reversed. This is due to the referee’s action for a punch they considered low in the fifth round.

"On September 12, Usyk’s team acknowledged receipt of the appeal. Their response addressed their arguments and various considerations about the fight. After studying all the documents, the conclusions of all the instances, and the internal rules of the WBA, it was determined that the appeal does not proceed. Therefore, the decision of the fight stands with the victory and defense of the champion Usyk," WBA stated

And now that Warren has had some time to digest the news, the Queensbury Promotions promoter indicated his desire to appeal the decision. This was on the basis that the key parts of the grievances were not addressed, leaving many unanswered questions.

Warren’s Response

"I’m disappointed with them not even considering what our complaint was. What they came back with didn’t even address it. We complained about the referee, as I’ve said on many occasions, not giving specific instructions to both boxers. And for what he did regarding giving the amount of time he did, which was nearly four minutes for Usyk to rest even when he wanted to carry on himself after a low blow that wasn’t even a low blow. We will appeal that," Warren stated

Ultimately, boxing fans are more intent on seeing an Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury bout instead after the two fighters agreed to box for undisputed.

And the Dubois decision has now been put on the back burner, which is why it would take a brave person to overturn the result. Find all the latest boxing news and MMA breaking updates on boxingblitz.
