Wardley Vs. Dubois: Will It Happen?

The Wardley-Dubois rematch is coming — just not on anyone else's schedule.

Fabio Wardley's manager Michael Ofo confirmed this week that the rematch clause has been activated following Wardley's defeat to Daniel Dubois, but pushed back firmly against speculation that the second fight could happen before the end of the year. Wardley controls the timing under the agreement, and Ofo made clear that advantage will be used.

"We've activated the rematch. Fabio's excited to be in such a fight again. He knows the mistakes that he made and wants to get it back in blood. He came out of the ring, numerous doctors saw him backstage. He wasn't concussed. There was nothing broken, no nose broken, no fractures. It was purely just the cosmetics. It was just blood, which his nose always goes,” Ofo

Wardley has already returned to some training, though the cuts require more time to heal fully before he can prepare properly for a second fight. The three-month timeline being discussed publicly was addressed and dismissed.

"There is a time limit, and it's in favor of Fabio. I've heard people say it's going to happen within three months. It's not going to happen within three months. It happens when Fabio is ready," Ofo

The analysis of what went wrong in the first fight points toward a specific psychological shift rather than a physical mismatch. Ofo suggested the early damage altered Wardley's mindset in a way that affected how he competed through the remainder of the bout — a problem of execution rather than preparation, which is the more correctable variety.

Dubois is a significantly higher level of opposition than Clarke. Whether that pattern repeats against a fighter who stopped Wardley in the first place is the question the rematch will answer whenever Wardley decides he is ready to ask it.
