Impa Kasanganay: PFL has best middleweights in MMA
Impa Kasanganay believes the PFL has assembled the best middleweight roster in mixed martial arts.
The former UFC fighter faces Johnny Eblen for the promotion's first-ever interim 185-pound title at PFL Austin on July 18, and he told reporters this week that his division's top tier matches up with any organisation in the world. "The best middleweights in the world, right? I mean it," Kasanganay said in a video posted by the PFL, per Sherdog. "Across organizations, you say, OK, who are the best guys at what they do? I'm there, Johnny's there, and you see the top five."
Interim belt created after van Steenis injury
The interim championship was created after title-holder Costello van Steenis withdrew with an injury. Eblen, who lost the belt to van Steenis in 2025, enters as the No. 1 contender while Kasanganay sits at No. 3 in the rankings. Kasanganay went further in his assessment, claiming PFL's upper echelon is unmatched. "Like John Martin said, this Top 5 in the PFL is probably the best one in the world currently," he added.
The winner at PFL Austin will face van Steenis once the Dutch-Spaniard is cleared to compete. First bell is Saturday, July 18, live on ESPN.
