Walker On Lewis: Why The UFC Heavyweight Is His Pick

Valter Walker wants Derrick Lewis next, and the Brazilian heavyweight has a simple reason why.

Walker, who has finished his past five opponents by submission in the opening round, told MMA Junkie he's targeting an October or November return with two names in mind: Lewis and undefeated prospect Josh Hokit. Between the two, he prefers the former title challenger.

Why Walker Favors The Lewis Matchup Over Hokit

"If I could pick, I would pick Derrick Lewis," Walker said. "I think for me it's an interesting fight. He has a big name and a more big name than Josh Hokit. I think Derrick Lewis has an interesting name in the game. I watched him when I was young. He has the record for knocking people out, and I try to make my name in the game."

Hokit beat Lewis at UFC Freedom 250, but Walker sees the Houston knockout artist — who holds the promotion's all-time finish record — as the higher-value scalp. The submission specialist known as "The Foot Hunter" has built a streak on grappling excellence while Lewis built his reputation on power.

Walker added he'll take whatever the UFC offers. "I'm a soldier for the UFC," he said. "Whoever the UFC gives me, I'm happy and I'll agree."

Walker is slated to return to the Octagon in the final quarter of 2026.
