Walker Fires Back At Critics After Knockout Win
Johnny Walker used his UFC Vegas 124 knockout to settle scores with critics who questioned his durability.
Walker stopped Waldo Cortes-Acosta in the third round Saturday night after the bout was elevated to main event status when Sean Brady withdrew from his scheduled fight against Gabriel Bonfim. Walker landed a question mark kick that staggered Cortes-Acosta, then followed with a right hand that closed the show.
Walker Defends His Durability After Cortes-Acosta Finish
In his post-fight interview, Walker addressed the chin talk directly. "Thank you," he said, per BJPENN.com. "Without a heavy guy like this who could take a punch, it wouldn't be a good fight. Who don't have a chin now? This was just to prove to everyone."
Speaking to media afterward, Walker broke down the sequence that led to the knockout. He explained that Cortes-Acosta started swinging for power after eating the question mark kick, creating openings. Walker said he recognized his opponent was loading up too much and knew a counter opportunity would present itself.
The win carries weight in the heavyweight division — Cortes-Acosta entered ranked inside the top 10 and had never been finished before Saturday. Walker earned a Fight of the Night bonus for the effort.
