Walker Doubts UFC Title Run Over Childhood Foot Issue

UFC heavyweight Valter Walker says a physical problem stemming from childhood poverty has him questioning whether he can become a champion.

Walker, whose 16-1 record includes five straight submission wins since his 2024 UFC debut loss, told Full Mount MMA that wearing undersized shoes as a kid permanently curled his toes and now limits his footwork. The Brazilian could not afford new footwear as his feet grew, and the damage has carried into his professional career.

Walker On Curled Toes Limiting Striking Game

"I really have a big problem with my footwork," Walker said on the Full Mount MMA podcast, per Sherdog. "My foot is not really good because when I was young, I didn't have money to buy new shoes. All the time my foot grew and the shoes were smaller than my feet. My toes are a little bit [curled]. And because of this, I have a little bit of a footwork problem. And I don't really know how I can be a champion."

The 28-year-old has built his reputation on leg lock submissions rather than striking, earning the nickname "The Foot Hunter." He acknowledged that the toe issue prevents him from staying light on his feet and developing elite stand-up skills.

Walker is not yet in UFC title contention but has climbed the heavyweight rankings quickly with his grappling approach. His next opponent has not been announced.
