Valter Walker Calls Out Lewis After UFC Rise

UFC heavyweight Valter Walker has identified two potential opponents he wants to face next in the Octagon, with knockout artist Derrick Lewis topping his wish list.

Walker, who continues to make noise in the heavyweight division with his submission skills and fearless approach, told MMA Junkie he would be ready to return in October or November. "I want Derrick Lewis or Josh Hokit," Walker said. "I have in mind these two guys: Derrick Lewis or Josh Hokit. This is who I want next."

Walker Targets Lewis For Name Value

Given the choice, Walker leans toward the Lewis matchup for the name recognition alone. "If I could pick, I would pick Derrick Lewis," he said. "I think for me it's an interesting fight. He has a big name and a more big name than Josh Hokit. I watched him when I was young. He has the record for knocking people out, and I try to make my name in the game."

The Brazilian heavyweight made clear he will fight whoever the UFC assigns him. "I'm a soldier for the UFC," Walker said. "Whoever the UFC gives me, I'm happy, and I'll agree. I'm not the kind of guy who says, 'Who do I get in the negotiation?' No, whoever the UFC gives me, I'm happy to agree."

Walker has built his Octagon reputation on a dangerous submission game and willingness to take on all comers. Lewis, who holds the UFC record for most heavyweight knockouts, would represent a significant step up in competition and a potential launching pad toward title contention for the rising contender.
