President-Elect Trump Tipped To Attend UFC 309
President-Elect Donald Trump has been tipped to attend UFC 309.
Trump secured his second term with a victory against Kamala Harris, putting an end to the recent presidential election, which had divided the American public. Dana White, the CEO of the UFC, is an ardent supporter of Trump, as shown by his support during the campaign’s build-up. He spoke at the Republican National Convention, praising Trump for his response to the assassination attempt. He had previously spoken at the RNC in 2016 and 2020, showing his long-term support for Trump. Dana White’s support for Trump also rubbed off on Joe Rogan, who invited him on his podcast before going on to endorse him.
Trump has shown a history of turning up at UFC events. He made a historic visit when he was the first sitting President to attend a UFC event in 2019. He appeared at UFC 244 as Jorge Masvidal defeated Nate Diaz to become the BMF Champion. It was the first time that the BMF title had been given out. Trump would also attend UFC 264 in 2021 when Conor McGregor lost to Dustin Poirier. He has made further appearances at UFC 287, UFC 295 and UFC 299.
Trump’s Appearance
White also welcomed Trump at UFC 302 when Islam Makhachev defeated Dustin Poirier via a submission in the final round to retain his UFC Lightweight Title. He was also seen conversing with Khabib Nurmagomedov at the event, showing that he is a big UFC fan. Trump had also supported the UFC during its earlier years by offering venues in Atlantic City.
Trump is a massive fan of Khabib, calling him the greatest MMA fighter ever. This is something he does differ with when it comes to White, who was regularly called Jon Jones the greatest ever. But according to Michael Chandler and Bo Nickal, Trump could make an appearance at UFC 309.
"He said, ‘I’ll either be there on Nov. 16 because we won the election, or if I lost, I’ll be depressed, and I won’t show up. Obviously he won the election, so it sounds like he’s going to be there,” Chandler said
"I think he’s gonna be there. He told me a couple of times that he’s gonna be there. He’s the President. … I’m sure that if he’s not (at UFC 309), there was something else that was more important," Nickal stated
Jon Jones will headline the event as he defends his UFC Heavyweight Title against Stipe Miocic. This could be Jones’ last fight, with reports that he may retire after this bout. Alternatively, he has also spoken about having a super fight with Alex Pereira after suggestions that he is ducking the interim champion Tom Aspinall. While Trump may take some time off to attend UFC events, his main focus will be on delivering on his campaign promises.
