Medic Calls Out Edwards After 30-Second KO

Uros Medic wants former UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards after stopping Daniel Rodriguez in 30 seconds at UFC Belgrade on Saturday.

Medic, fighting in front of his home crowd at Belgrade Arena, landed a quick finish in his first UFC main event and immediately set his sights on a bigger name. MMA Mania reports that the Serbian welterweight doubled down on a callout he first made in February, telling the post-fight show that Edwards would put him in the top 10 without debate.

Medic Targets Former Champion To Fast-Track Title Shot

"Leon Edwards is a name that puts me into the Top 10 without conversation," Medic said on the post-fight show, per MMA Mania. "He's a former champion, and after him, I just need one more former champion — and once the second former champion hits the canvas, I'm next in line for the belt." At the press conference, he added that Edwards is next if available but said he will not push the issue if the Brit declines.

Edwards has dropped three straight fights after losing the welterweight title and has slipped into veteran gatekeeper territory. Medic acknowledged his preferred matchup is Carlos Prates, but Prates is reportedly near a title shot after knocking out two former champions himself. The 33-year-old Medic is riding a four-fight win streak with all four stoppages in the first round and has never seen a decision in his career.

The UFC returns to action next weekend with a Fight Night card in Las Vegas.
