In the UFC Fight Night main event in Azerbaijan, two hard-hitting light-heavyweights collide as Jamahal Hill and Khalil Rountree Jr both look to get back into the win column.
Jamahal Hill (12-3, 7 KO’s) enters this bout looking to stop the slide. Once riding high after a masterclass against Glover Teixeira to capture the title, he’s now trying to shake off back-to-back defeats to current champion Alex Pereira and former titleholder Jiri Prochazka. Though competitive in moments against Prochazka at UFC 311, Hill’s tendency to brawl and neglect his defence has seen him outgunned in recent firefights.
On the other side, Khalil Rountree Jr (13-6, 9 KO’s) is arguably enjoying the best run of his career. Despite being finished in the fourth round by Alex Pereira last October, his effort exceeded expectations and gave fans a new appreciation of him. Before that, Rountree had rattled off five straight wins, showcasing increased discipline, improved cardio, and a maturing skill set to go along with his trademark explosive power.

Jamahal Hill vs Khalil Rountree Jr: Analysis

This one truly has a potential fight of the year contender written all over it. Both men love to strike and have genuine one-punch knockout power, but how they go about it is quite different.
Hill brings consistent pressure and high output. When he’s flowing, he overwhelms opponents with volume and power, but his leaky defence has become a growing liability against the very elite 205-pounders.
Rountree is a lower volume striker but a lot more technical and measured. He times his shots well, has brutal finishing instincts, and rarely wastes energy. He’s more defensively sound than Hill and won’t get drawn into a war unless it favours him.
In a pure stand-up battle, the deciding factor may be who lands first, and who can stay composed when these two inevitably get into a firefight in the centre of the cage.
Hill vs Rountree Jr: Prediction & Betting Tips
It may surprise casual bettors to see Rountree as the favourite given Hill is the former champ and higher ranked fighter. But the odds reflect form, recent performances, and a style matchup that should favour Rountree Jr.
“Sweet Dreams” hasn’t won since January 2023, while Rountree’s lone loss in that time came in a competitive showing against one of the most dangerous men in MMA history, Alex Pereira.
Despite Hill almost having double the significant strikes landed per minute compared to Rountree Jr, he has the lower striking defence, and averages a tiny bit less significant strikes absorbed per minute than Rountree.
Of course, questions will be asked regarding how much was taken out of Rountree Jr after that gutsy performance versus “Poatan” at the back end of 2024. But then you’ve also got to ask about the confidence levels of Hill, who has not tasted victory in over two years.
With sharper timing, better recent form, and a more patient, composed striking approach, Rountree is the value pick in this one with the most likely outcome coming via KO/TKO at odds of 2.20 (Sky Bet).
