UFC Provides Custom Gym For Wounded Marine

The UFC partnered with Jared Allen's Homes for Wounded Warriors to build a custom gym and physical therapy room for retired Marine Lance Corporal Josh Wege, a bilateral below-the-knee amputee who received a mortgage-free home in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

Wege enlisted in 2008 and deployed to Afghanistan with military police. An improvised explosive device struck his light armored vehicle during his tour, resulting in the loss of both legs below the knee. He later received the Purple Heart and Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal.

Fourth Patriots Softball Player To Receive Home

The Wisconsin residence marks the fourth mortgage-free home JAH4WW has provided to a member of the USA Patriots Amputee Athletics softball team. Wege co-founded the competitive slow-pitch squad made up of military veterans who lost limbs and mentors young amputees through the program.

"We are forever grateful to UFC and their continued commitment to providing home gyms to critical wounded combat veterans and making sure they have everything they need in their road to recovery," JAH4WW Executive Director Alex Karalexis said, per UFC.com. "The impact UFC is having on these veterans is tremendous."

NFL Hall of Famer Jared Allen launched the nonprofit in 2009 after a USO tour of Middle East military bases. The organization has completed 27 mortgage-free homes since its inception, with four more under construction. Each residence is designed to fit the specific physical needs of the recipient.

UFC will continue collaborating with JAH4WW on injury-specific gym and therapy room installations for veterans selecting the option in their new homes.
