UFC BJJ Opens launches to create pathway to world titles

UFC BJJ is launching a tournament series designed to funnel grapplers from local mats straight to world title contention.

The promotion announced UFC BJJ Opens on Monday, a competition format open to athletes at every level that will debut Aug. 22 in Las Vegas, per the UFC's official site. Four events are scheduled for 2026, with more planned for 2027. Registration and details are available at ufcbjjopens.com.

Action-first ruleset mirrors UFC BJJ system

The tournaments will use a modified ruleset built to reward finishes and fast-paced exchanges, mirroring the entertainment-driven format seen at top-tier UFC BJJ events. Senior Director of Jiu-Jitsu Strategy Claudia Gadelha said the system aims to give competitors real progression. "Our goal is to build a system and create opportunities where competitors can start locally, develop through real competition experience, and ultimately see a path toward the highest level of professional grappling at UFC BJJ," she said in the release.

Advanced divisions at Opens will not guarantee a UFC BJJ contract, but the promotion is positioning the series as a scouting ground for talent. Beginners can gain experience under the same banner used at professional events, while expert competitors can try to earn attention from matchmakers.

All events will follow UFC protocols for athlete safety and competition structure. Additional cities and dates will be announced later this year.
