UFC 329 loses bantamweight bout as Ewing pulls out with injury
Bantamweight contender Ethyn Ewing has withdrawn from UFC 329 due to an injury, leaving Javid Basharat without an opponent less than two weeks before the July 11 card at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
MMA Fighting confirmed the news with multiple sources familiar with the promotion's plans. Best Fight Picks initially broke the story on social media. UFC officials are now scrambling to find a replacement for Basharat ahead of International Fight Week.
Basharat's undefeated streak continues without opponent
Basharat enters the situation riding a 15-0 professional record with six straight UFC wins. The 28-year-old most recently edged Jean Matsumoto via split decision at UFC Vegas 113 in February.
Ewing, a former A1 Combat champion, had won both his octagon appearances — a short-notice upset of Malcolm Wellmaker at UFC 322 last November, then a liver kick stoppage of Rafael Estevam at UFC Vegas 115 in April.
The card is anchored by Conor McGregor's return against Max Holloway in a rematch of their 2013 featherweight bout. No replacement for the Basharat fight has been named.
