The Takeover secured the belt after giving Josh Taylor his first career defeat. The victory meant Lopez became a two-weight world champion. He was also a two-time lineal champion after beating Vasiliy Lomachenko at 135 and then Taylor.

Ortiz has his first fight at Junior Welterweight. He followed up his loss to Lomachenko with a win over Antonio Moran. This is arguably the toughest fight of his career, but he does have Bill Haney in his camp. That match-up is an intriguing fight since Lopez has been linked with a bout against Bill’s son, Devin Haney.

Pre-fight comments

“I haven’t stopped training since August of last year. And I’m not going to stop. After I beat Jamaine Ortiz, then I will keep staying in the gym. The end result is that ‘The Showman’ is returning. There will definitely be a knockout. It’s not going the distance. I’m not going to leave it in the judges’ hands at all,” Lopez said

I will be crowned the new champion at 140. I will be the face of the 140-pound division, and I’m just excited, man. I’m ready. I’ll show him February 8 [that] I do have that Champion’s heart, and he’s going to be questioning himself once again on February 8th if he still has it. February 8th, I’m bringing my heart. I’m bringing everything – my soul, my whole body. I’m willing to risk my life in the ring [on] February 8. I got more dog than him. I’m going [to] show that. I’m a real dog,” Ortiz stated

In chief support, Keyshawn Davis takes on Jose Pedraza. Davis’ last bout was a win against Nahir Albright. But the result was overturned into a no-contest after Davis failed a test for marijuana. Davis hopes a win will give him a title shot against the winner of Vasiliy Lomachenko vs. George Kambosos Jr, who face off on May 12 for the vacant IBF Lightweight Title. Let us take a look at the best moments from the presser.
