Sheeraz Settles For Majority Decision Win In Title Defence

Hamzah Sheeraz retained his WBO middleweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">super middleweight title on Saturday in Saudi Arabia with a majority decision over Simon Zachenhuber: 114-114, 115-113, 116-112.

Sheeraz was levels above his challenger, hurting Zachenhuber in the fifth round and controlling the pace, but never upped the ante enough to force a stoppage. One judge scoring it a draw raised an eyebrow from Sheeraz himself. Sheeraz was candid about why.

"I could make a million excuses. I'll be better in the next fight. I need a step up now, someone who will mentally present a challenge. I was switching off at times. I was too comfortable when I didn't have a threat in front of me,” Sheeraz

Sheeraz is unbeaten and holds a world title. Sheeraz then confirmed he will be ringside on October 31 to watch Canelo Alvarez challenge Christian Mbilli for the WBC belt. The Canelo-Mbilli winner would represent a significant commercial and competitive opportunity for Sheeraz.
