Shakur Stevenson Wants Haney At 140, Convinced That Tank Davis Will Fight Him

In today’s boxing news, Shakur Stevenson has revealed that he would be willing to fight Devin Haney at 140 pounds.

The pair could have faced each other at 135 pounds as Stevenson was the mandatory for the WBC belt. However, Haney would end up moving up to 140 pounds to face Regis Prograis for the latter’s WBC belt.

That resulted in Haney being stripped of the WBC belt, as he became the champion in recess at 135. While Haney could move back down to face the winner of Stevenson vs. Edwin De Los Santos for the WBC, that is unlikely.

Haney is naturally a lot bigger than the lightweight division. And yet, there was a 25 percent offer on the table from the ‘Dream’ to face Stevenson, which was turned down on the basis that it did not reflect his true value.

Nevertheless, Stevenson made it clear that he would be open to fighting Haney at junior welterweight.

Stevenson On Haney

"I believe in myself wholeheartedly. It don’t matter because I will stand on what I’m saying. I wouldn’t mind fighting at 140, but let me get my feet wet at 135 and keep feeling the division out…If it makes sense, we can get something going," Stevenson

"I don’t believe his [Haney] confidence is that high for him to just jump from weight to weight like him doing, going from 126, 130, and 135. I don’t think his confidence is that high just to go to 147. At 140, I feel he’s [Haney] going to try and stay there a long time like he did with 135," Stevenson

Outside of the Haney fight, Stevenson has also set his eyes on facing Gervonta Davis. A fight has been mentioned, however, Stevenson admitted that he was not in a postion to make offers for that fight since Davis is the cash cow.

However, moving forward, if both fighters continue to win at 135 pounds, then it is only a matter of time before the pair square off in the ring.

The styles would throw up an interesting dynamic, as Stevenson’s high boxing IQ and impenetrable defense would go up against a knockout artist in the form of Davis. And for Shakur, he is confident that the fight will get made.

Stevenson On Davis

"I feel like he’ll fight me. With Devin, I disagree with you when you say he’s going to go up to 147. I think he’s going to be at 140 for a long time. Even if he got bigger and the weight was hard to make, he wouldn’t want to fight those dudes at 147.

With Haney, Davis and Stevenson all being undefeated, the question of who is the best of this era can only be resolved once both fighters enter the ring.

And given that the fights have been talked about for so long, the potential to break records is there. After all, Davis’ fight against Ryan Garcia sold over 1.2 million PPVs.

And with the right build-up, these bouts could potentially do something big too. Find all the latest boxing news and MMA breaking updates on boxingblitz.
