Shakur Stevenson Denies Being Stopped In Sparring: Claims Haney Is Lying

In the latest boxing news, Shakur Stevenson has denied being knocked out in sparring by Liam Paro following some claims made by Devin Haney on social media.
Shakur is currently preparing to face Edwin De Los Santos for the vacant WBC title on November 16th, 2023. The fight came about after Haney moved up to 140 just as Stevenson enforced his mandatory position.
In and amongst this, Haney became the champion in recess at 135 for the WBC belt as he was stripped. But prior to that happening, Haney made a 25 percent offer to face Shakur which was turned down.
Stevenson claimed that the offer did not reflect his true value, while Haney used the move to show that the boxer was not serious about wanting a fight.
And ever since that moment, the two fighters have not been on the best of terms. That resulted in Haney sharing a rumor on social media that Stevenson had been stopped in sparring, something which he has denied.
"The reality is Devin is insecure. When you’re in these gyms in Vegas, there’s a lot of people that make up stuff, and they make up their own version of how stuff go, and all that kind of stuff. “Somebody my have told him some bull s**t, and he wanted to believe it so bad. He didn’t know if it was the truth or not, and he kind of went on Twitter and kind of put it out there.
"I’d like for y’all to go interview Liam Para because I’m not going to disrespect him because I don’t know if it came from him. I’m not going to disprect him because he’s quiet too. He didn’t say nothing. Go and interview him and ask him how those sparring sessions went with me. He’s going to tell you that I’m a bad mother f***ker, and ask him if he hurt me. He’s going to tell you ‘No, Stevenson
Aside from the standoff with Haney, Shakur also had a few choice words to say about Vasiliy Lomachenko. Prior to facing De Los Santos, Shakur was first meant to take on Loma for the vacant title.
The Ukrainian was the next-highest-ranked contender, following his own impressive performance against Haney. Despite losing via a unanimous decision, the majority of the boxing community felt that the Ukrainian had done enough to win.
In the aftermath of the loss, Bob Arum confirmed that Loma would not be fighting in 2023, putting an end to any hopes of a fight with Shakur. That did not go down well with the latter, who made it clear that he was unimpressed with the Ukrainian.
"I think it’s some weak a** s**t. If you ask me, it’s weak. I can’t do s**t about it. I just got to keep fighting, and hopefully, after I get this belt, if he [Lomachenko] ain’t got a belt, he’ll want to get a belt. This is my second fight at 135. I don’t see it going on and on and that I don’t get a chance to fight that guy. Honestly, I think me and him [Lomachenko] can be next," Shakur
