Schaub Tells Garry To Shut Up After Women Comment
Brendan Schaub wants Ian Machado Garry to stop doing interviews.
Garry challenges Islam Makhachev for the UFC welterweight title at UFC 330 next month, but his recent media rounds have backfired badly, according to the former heavyweight. A viral clip showing Garry claiming women should rule the world set Schaub off on his YouTube channel, per MMA Fighting.
Schaub's Take On Garry's PR Strategy
"I'm a fan of Ian Machado Garry when he fights," Schaub said. "Ian Garry is so talented inside that octagon. Nightmare matchup for guys. That being said, outside of the octagon, he might have the worst interviews I've ever seen. His PR is so bad. He's the only guy I'd ever go, 'Let's not do any promo for this fight. You're turning everybody off.'"
Schaub dismissed the idea that Garry was trolling with the women comment, arguing the Irish welterweight should stick to fight talk when promoting a bout with the pound-for-pound king. He invoked the LeBron James "shut up and dribble" controversy, flipping his usual stance.
"I never agreed with that. Like, come on man, they're people, too. You've got to let them express themselves. Until I heard Ian Garry do an interview. I'm like, 'Shut up and fight.' Shut up and fight, because you're turning everybody off."
Garry faces Makhachev on Aug. 15 at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia.
