Ryan Garcia tells Conor Benn he's not good enough to win

Ryan Garcia has fired back at Conor Benn ahead of their confirmed WBC welterweight title fight, telling the British challenger he does not have the tools to win when they meet September 12 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

After Benn warned that he would smash Garcia's head in, the 27-year-old champion responded on social media by dismissing his opponent's credentials. Garcia wrote that he had already told Benn in person that he was not a skilled enough fighter to beat him, per Bad Left Hook, adding that Benn had forced himself into a fight he was not ready for and would learn a painful lesson as a result.

Benn returns to welterweight after four-year absence

Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya announced the matchup earlier this week, confirming that Garcia and Benn had reached terms after lengthy negotiations. The bout will stream on Paramount+ in the United States and on DAZN in the United Kingdom and Ireland, with backing from Zuffa Boxing's joint venture partners.

Garcia captured the WBC strap with a decision win over Mario Barrios earlier this year and carries a 25-2 record with 20 knockouts. Benn, 29, brings a 25-1 mark with 14 stoppages but has not weighed in at the full welterweight limit since April 2022, when he beat Chris van Heerden. His most recent outing came at a 150-pound catchweight against Regis Prograis in April, following two fights at middleweight against Chris Eubank Jr.

The September date gives Benn less than two months to prove Garcia wrong.
