Ryan Garcia Calls For A Rematch With Tank Davis – ‘Let's Run It Back'

In the latest boxing news, Ryan Garcia has called out Gervonta Davis for a rematch.

In the biggest bout of his career, Garcia was stopped by Davis in the seventh round via a body shot. Garcia was criticized for getting up after the count, the implication being that the fighter quit rather than risk getting knocked out.

"He did get up. He got up as soon as it got to 10, 11, he was up, he was on his feet. He made a conscious decision that, ‘I don’t want any more of this,’ and I understand — he may have been in a bit of pain, but it was just, I didn’t like it. I didn’t like how he quit. He quit, that’s the top and bottom," Carl Frampton

The post-fight analysis suggested that the ten-pound rehydration clause may have impacted Garcia’s performance. This was in addition to suggestions that Garcia had been injured in camp via a body shot, which had been leaked via a mole in the fighter’s camp.

"Actually sad I had a mole in my camp. Like WTF that’s crazy but thank God it’s brought to light now. Also didn’t mean that to come off as an excuse of anything," he wrote. "I lost period. I’ll come back but I’m just shocked that part of my team crossed me, someone close to me. Unbelievable. But it’s a testimony that you must be aware of anyone," Garcia

While that may have been the case, the event was a success. The bout sold a reported $1.2 million pay-per-views. In addition, Garcia pocketed a reported $30 million.

Since then, Garcia moved up to 140 with a new trainer in the form of Derrick James. And provided that Garcia overcomes Oscar Duarte on December 2nd, 2023, King Ryan was open to running things back.

Garcia On The Rematch

Those comments were echoed by Oscar De La Hoya, who endorsed a bout at 140. Davis has fought at the weight class, having knocked Mario Barrios at junior welterweight.

But since then, Davis has been campaigning at 135 pounds. However, outside of Garcia, the lucrative fights are few and far between. With that being said, De La Hoya did not rule out a bout.

Garcia’s Next Steps

Ultimately, Garcia’s main aim should be to target a world title in his weight class before pursuing a bout with Davis. Fights with Teofimo Lopez, Devin Haney and Rolando Romero could open up later down the line.

If Garcia can grab his first world title, then the Davis fight will always be there. But ultimately, the boxer will have to choose whether legacy or currency takes precedent.

After all, outside of Canelo Alvarez, Davis is the cash cow in the division. And given that Garcia has a huge social media following, a rematch could set records once again.

It is true to say that the fight was the highest-grossing boxing bout of 2023. With that being said, time will tell how it all plays out moving forward.
