Rousey Submits Carano In 15 Seconds

Former UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey submitted Gina Carano with the armbar in 15 seconds — closing a chapter she had left open since Amanda Nunes stopped her in December 2016.

From the opening exchange she found the position, locked the arm, and Carano had no answer. Thirteen wins in fifteen professional fights, ten by armbar submission. A decade away from the sport and none of it showed in the fifteen seconds that mattered.

The result delivered on everything Rousey had said she wanted from the fight. She described Carano as her hero in the build-up and spoke openly about wanting to rewrite her ending in the sport — the two losses to Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes had closed her UFC career on terms that never felt final to her.

Carano, returning from a seventeen-year absence, was always facing a difficult night against a fighter whose finishing instincts have not diminished with time. She came back at 44 after the longest layoff of any fighter on the card.

Post-Fight

"Gina is a person who brought me into MMA, she is the only person who could bring me back into MMA. She's my hero. She brought me back home when no-one else could, and she showed me where my home was. You changed my world, and we changed the world. I could never be able to pay you back enough.

"I was hoping to come out as unscathed as possible because I didn't want to hurt her. Luckily, it was beautiful martial arts, that is what it is, it's an art. There is no way I could have ended it better than this. I want to have some more babies and I have to get cooking," Rousey
