Rosas Jr. Eyes Title Prep In First UFC Five-Rounder

Raul Rosas Jr. heads into his first five-round UFC assignment viewing it as championship preparation rather than a challenge to overcome.

The 19-year-old headlines UFC Vegas 121 against Raoni Barcelos on Sept. 26 at Meta Apex in Las Vegas. Sherdog reports Rosas Jr. welcomes the 25-minute format specifically to experience the championship rounds that will define his career trajectory.

Rosas Jr. Wants Full Five Rounds Against Durable Veteran

Rosas Jr. told media Wednesday he needs the extended time to crack a opponent who has been finished just twice across his entire career. "It's different managing a five-round fight for sure," he said, per Sherdog. "And I'm excited to go in there for the first time for five rounds. It makes me more excited if it does go to the fourth and fifth round. Because I'm starting to get used to this as the championship fights are coming. I want to have five rounds to try to finish him 'cause he is hard to finish. Even when he gets dropped, he gets back up."

Rosas Jr. became the youngest UFC signee in history when he joined the promotion at 17 in 2022. After a submission win in his debut, he dropped a decision to Christian Rodriguez before reeling off five straight victories. His most recent win came against Rob Font.

Barcelos brings his own five-fight streak into the main event, built on upset wins over hyped prospects Payton Talbott and Montel Jackson. The Brazilian has made a reputation for dismantling rising contenders.

The bout airs Saturday night from Las Vegas with Rosas Jr. looking to prove he belongs in title conversations sooner than later.
