Rosas Jr. On Breaking Jones' UFC Record

Raul Rosas Jr. believes he is closing in on Jon Jones' record as the youngest UFC champion in history.

Rosas, ranked 12th at bantamweight, meets No. 13 Raoni Barcelos at UFC Vegas 121 on Saturday at the Meta Apex facility in Las Vegas. At Wednesday's media day, the 21-year-old told reporters he has a two-year window to eclipse Jones' mark, per MMA Junkie.

Rosas Jr. Sets Two-Year Timeline For Title Run

"I've got two years to break Jon Jones' record, and I feel like I'm on a good path," Rosas said. "I'm starting off the year good, being ranked at 21 years old, so we're doing a good job, I think. If there's anybody that they put in front of me and I get beat, then I'm not ready to become a champion. I believe I'm ready to become a champion."

Jones won the heavyweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">light heavyweight belt at 23 in 2011. Rosas has fought three times in the UFC since his 2022 debut on Dana White's Contender Series.

The UFC Vegas 121 card also features middleweight grappler Rodolfo Vieira against Robert Bryczek. Media day included appearances from UFC BJJ athletes Mikey Musumeci, Bryce Mitchell, Mason Fowler, and Nick Rodriguez, reflecting the promotion's expanded submission grappling division.
