Rogan Advises Sharaf On Retiring After UFC 331 Upset
Joe Rogan pressed Sean Sharaf to think hard about retirement after the heavyweight pulled off one of the sport's biggest upsets at UFC 331 last month.
Sharaf knocked out Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson seconds into their fight, handing the prospect his first MMA loss. The former U.S. Marine entered the bout 0-2 in the cage and closed as a massive underdog against Steveson, who debuted at UFC 329 earlier this year. Sharaf has said publicly he's considering hanging up the gloves and doesn't chase championship runs.
Rogan Tells Sharaf To Let Moment Settle
Rogan invited Sharaf onto his podcast and addressed the retirement talk directly. "Well if that's the case, then definitely go and take mushrooms with your dog because the decision is going to always be entirely yours," Rogan said, per Bloody Elbow. "There's nothing wrong with you walking away right now if you want to do that, so you have to think about it. And I think a moment like that is so big that you have to let it settle before you decide."
Sharaf won his first three professional fights by knockout before signing with the UFC in 2024. The heavyweight is basking in newfound attention after UFC 331, but Rogan appears supportive of whichever path he chooses.
Sharaf has not announced a timeline for his decision or a potential next opponent.
