Rodtang Apologises To Chatri After Forgery Claims

Tom Rashid

Rodtang Jitmuangnon withdrew his forgery accusations against ONE Championship and apologised to CEO Chatri Sityodtong this week, ending a five-month contractual standoff that reached courts in three countries.

The Thai star claimed in April that his ONE contract had expired and that his signature had been forged on contractual documents, as BJPenn.com reported. He threatened to take the matter to police but never filed a formal complaint. ONE rejected the claim and sued in Thailand, Japan, and Singapore, with the Thai case alone seeking damages of 542 million baht.

Rodtang's Path Back to ONE Championship

Discussions between Chatri, Jitmuangnon Gym owner Somjit Waenkaew, and other senior figures drove the reconciliation. Rodtang signed a new agreement with the promotion five days after appearing at The Inner Circle 22, where he embraced Takeru Segawa in the ring. "ONE has always paid me more than the amounts stated in my contracts. Not a single person within ONE forged my signature," Rodtang wrote, per BJPenn.com. "I sincerely apologise to Timo Ruge, a member of ONE's matchmaking team, for the misunderstanding that occurred."

The dispute allowed his rematch with Segawa to proceed at ONE Samurai 1, where Rodtang suffered his first knockout loss in 13 years. He is expected to train under Waenkaew going forward and targets reclaiming the flyweight Muay Thai title now held by Asadula Imangazaliev.

Rodtang told Chatri his best way to prove sincerity is to win the world championship again and bring pride to Thailand and Jitmuangnon Gym.
