Robertson Rejects Thomas Apology Over Insincerity
Gillian Robertson has turned down Din Thomas's apology after the longtime coach criticized her title fight performance on live television.
Thomas cornered Robertson at UFC 330 this past Saturday in Philadelphia, where she lost a unanimous decision to Mackenzie Dern in a women's strawweight title bout. During the post-fight show on Paramount+, Thomas announced his retirement from cornering fighters and said Robertson had come as close as she would ever get to winning UFC gold.
Thomas Apology Called Out As Insincere
On Monday's edition of "Deep Waters," Thomas walked back the remarks and called them "despicable." But Robertson told Ariel Helwani on "The Ariel Helwani Show" that the apology rings hollow. "He did reach out to me privately at 5:00 PM and then sent a voice message apologizing around 7:30 PM, to which I have not responded due to comments he has made since the broadcast, privately, to my team that led me to believe there is not much weight in the apology, such as, 'Me doing that publicly was more so for TV purposes and ratings,'" Robertson wrote in a message shared by Helwani, per BJPENN.com.
Robertson said she wants to move past the situation. "I don't think there's a conversation to be had," she wrote. "I'm good with everything. The people who sign my checks are cool. As for now, I regroup, take some time to heal, and I will be back in the gym as soon as possible on the same mission."
Thomas had said he'd been planning to stop cornering fighters well before UFC 330, noting he nearly walked away after Tyron Woodley's knockout loss to Jake Paul in their 2021 boxing rematch. Robertson's next fight remains unscheduled.
