Rico Verhoeven's next fight: Usyk rematch or move on?
Kickboxing star Rico Verhoeven is mulling his options after a disputed 11th-round stoppage loss to unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk at the Pyramids of Giza earlier this month.
The Dutchman has already lodged an appeal against the result, according to The Ring Magazine, which is now polling readers on potential next opponents. Options in the survey include a rematch with Usyk, along with former champions Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder.
Could Verhoeven land Joshua or Wilder?
Verhoeven's showing in Egypt suggested the Glory heavyweight king can hang at the top level of boxing despite limited ring experience. The Ring's Hans Themistode wrote that the performance means it won't be the last time fans see Verhoeven in the squared circle.
Promoter Turki Alalshikh reportedly hopes Usyk will face mandatory challenger Agit Kabayel before revisiting a Verhoeven rematch. That could leave the Dutchman shopping for a different marquee name while the appeal winds through channels.
No date has been set for a formal ruling on Verhoeven's protest of the stoppage.
