Reid, Thomas & Burton Reach European Semi-Finals

Great Britain locked up at least three medals at the European Boxing Championships after Chantelle Reid, Damar Thomas and Abdul Burton all advanced to the semi-finals in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Reid dispatched Ireland's Evelyn Igharo by unanimous decision in the women's welterweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">light-middleweight quarter-finals on Tuesday, per BBC Sport. The 28-year-old Commonwealth Games silver medallist will face Serbia's Milena Matovic in Wednesday's semi-final at the Asics Arena Sports Hall.

Burton Survives Split Decision Over Olympic Bronze Medallist

Thomas, 21, earned a clean sweep over Georgia's Nikoloz Begadze in the men's super-heavyweight division and moves on to meet Azerbaijan's Mahammad Abdullayev. Burton edged home favourite Javier Ibanez—an Olympic bronze medallist—on a 3-2 split to set up a semi-final clash with Turkey's Semih Gumus.

"Sometimes you have got to dig in and when things went against me I had to get stuck in and show who I was," Burton said after the win, according to BBC Sport. "I am young, hungry and here to take over."

The results marked a strong day for the British squad, though more than half of the 15-fighter contingent have now been eliminated. Ruby White fell 3-2 to Turkey's Olympic silver medallist Hatice Akbas in the flyweight division, while Emily Asquith dropped a 5-0 decision to Ireland's Lisa O'Rourke at light-heavyweight. Commonwealth Games champion Isaac Okoh was stopped 3-0 by Germany's Kevin Lebowski in the men's heavyweight quarter-finals.

Lauren Mackie, Amy Broadhurst, Callum Makin and Oladimeji Shittu are scheduled to compete in Wednesday's quarter-final session.
