Prograis And Diaz Face Off In Final Presser – ‘He's About To Get It'

Regis Prograis returns to the ring on August 2 against JoJo Diaz, as the pair held their final presser.

Prograis was once considered one of the most dangerous fighters in the 140-pound division, but his momentum has taken a hit. After a career-defining knockout of Jose Zepeda in 2022 to capture the WBC Junior Welterweight Title, Prograis followed it up with an underwhelming split decision win over Danielito Zorrilla. Then came back-to-back defeats to Devin Haney and Jack Catterall. JoJo Diaz, meanwhile, has gone 2-6 in his last eight outings. Despite recent losses to Oscar Duarte and Abraham Montoya, Diaz showed flashes of his old self in a solid win over Jorge Luis Valencia Diaz.

Pre-Fight

"Regis is a big guy and a strong competitor. But I see a lot of flaws in his game, and I know 100% Jo Jo Diaz is a very dangerous fighter. That’s what I am right now. I’m going to come in on fight night at 100% and execute my game plan and come out victorious on Saturday night. WHO HAS MORE LEFT? He’s [Prograis] a big guy, but I’m feeling good at this weight. I’m filling out, feeling good, feeling strong, and I’m ready to go," Diaz said

Presser

"I’m sorry, Jojo. He about to get it though. I’ve been training so hard for this for a long time. I’ve been in Vegas locked in and just, um, I’m just excited. Like I said, I make my Golden Boy debut, so I’m, um, yeah, I’m ready for it. And one thing, bro, like when I first turned pro, I wanted to sign with Golden Boy, but y’all didn’t want to pick me up, so somebody else had to pick me up.

"They didn’t want to pick me up. When I first turned pro, I came out to the 2012 Olympic trials and nobody wanted to pick me up and then somebody else gave me a chance. And so now I’m finally here. So, you know what I’m saying? We’re gonna see. We’re going to see where it goes. I’m excited to be here. And Saturday night, it’s going to be, yeah, it’s going to be fun," Prograis

"I want to thank my team, everybody that made this possible for me to, uh, be back in the ring again. And I also want to thank Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions..I’ve been training hard, man. It’s been a lot of ups and downs in my career, but I’m very, very focused and I’m determined and I’m ready to go out there and perform at my best. Thank you guys. See you guys Saturday," Diaz
