Katie Taylor eyes Croke Park retirement fight after Hearn chat

Aaron Clarke
Lightweight & Featherweight Writer ·

Katie Taylor has revealed she is chasing a retirement fight at Croke Park after discussing her future with her promoter. The Irish star said the Dublin venue is the only goal left worth pursuing in her career.

“I had a conversation with Eddie [Hearn, promoter] after the last fight and I said, 'what else is there to chase other than Croke Park?'”

What Katie Taylor said

Taylor spoke to BBC Sport about her plans following her most recent bout. The undisputed lightweight champion has headlined stadiums across the United States and the UK but has never fought at the GAA headquarters in her home city. Croke Park holds over 82,000 spectators and would mark a homecoming for the Bray native.

What it moves

Taylor's comment suggests she views a Croke Park date as a career-ending event rather than another defence. The promotion would need co-operation from the GAA, which rarely grants boxing licences for the ground. No opponent or timeframe has been named.
