Welterweight Jonny Parsons will end a three-year absence Saturday at UFC Vegas 124 after chronic hip flexor damage forced him off the roster following his 2023 promotional debut.
Parsons knocked out Danny Roberts in the second round at UFC London in July 2023, overwhelming the Brit with a late flurry that earned both men Fight of the Night bonuses. He never fought again. According to UFC.com, hip flexor problems spread into his groin and became so severe that some mornings he could not lift his legs or stand without pain.

UFC Performance Institute Rehab Breaks Cycle
The 35-year-old tried multiple comebacks over the first year but reinjured himself each time he resumed training. Eventually he enrolled in a full rehabilitation program at the UFC Performance Institute, combining targeted physical therapy with overhauled conditioning work. That approach ended the cycle. Parsons told UFC.com he has not experienced a debilitating flare-up in roughly 12 months.
Despite the 40-month gap, Parsons believes the extended break suits his fighting style. Long stretches between bouts have marked his entire career, including the near two-year wait from his October 2021 Contender Series contract to his London appearance. "I'm confident coming off the couch," he said, per UFC.com.

His return opponent offers no soft landing. Brazilian prospect Jose Souza won his promotional debut over Ding Meng by split decision in May and carries a 9-1 record into the welterweight opener on the UFC Vegas 124 prelims. Parsons enters 9-3 with a reputation as a pressure Muay Thai fighter who turns every matchup into a brawl.
The card streams Saturday night from Meta Apex in Las Vegas.
