Overeem Pursuing Verhoeven Boxing Match

Former UFC heavyweight title challenger Alistair Overeem is in negotiations with longtime Glory champion Rico Verhoeven for a boxing match in Amsterdam, according to reports.

Overeem's representatives at Black Book PR shared a post from Boxing.media on Instagram detailing the potential matchup at Johan Cruijff ArenA. The two Dutch combat sports veterans were scheduled to fight twice before but never met in competition.

Three-Fight Series In Discussion

Per the report, the boxing clash would be the first of three scheduled bouts between the heavyweights, with kickboxing and MMA contests to follow. Overeem last appeared in the UFC in 2021, dropping a decision to Alexander Volkov. His 2022 Glory kickboxing win over Badr Hari was overturned to a no-contest after he tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs.

Verhoeven holds one professional MMA win on his record and has gone unbeaten in his last 22 kickboxing bouts. He most recently competed in boxing against Oleksandr Usyk in May, suffering a controversial stoppage in the final second of the match.

No date has been confirmed for the proposed Amsterdam showdown.
