O'Shaquie Foster called 'smartest fighter' by trainer Bobby Benton
Trainer Bobby Benton says O'Shaquie Foster possesses the sharpest fight IQ of anyone he's ever coached.
Benton made the claim ahead of Foster's WBC junior-featherweight title defense against Raymond Ford on May 30 in Houston, per BoxingScene. He compared Foster's analytical approach in the ring to a computer and called him "special" for the way he processes information mid-fight.
Benton frustrated by judging controversies around Foster
The trainer also voiced frustration over what he sees as a lack of appreciation for Foster's skillset. Foster has been on the wrong end of disputed scorecards in the past, and Benton suggested those decisions have cost the boxer the recognition his abilities deserve.
Foster holds a 23-3 record and reclaimed the WBC strap at junior-featherweight after losing it in a controversial split decision to Robson Conceição last year. The Ford fight will be his second defense of the title since winning it back.
First bell in Houston is set for the spring pay-per-view undercard that night.
