Oscar De La Hoya discusses Tank Davis vs Floyd Schofield bout

Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya confirmed that negotiations are progressing for a potential showdown between Gervonta Davis and Floyd Schofield, according to Bad Left Hook.

De La Hoya, speaking at Monday's announcement of the August 1 Lamont Roach versus William Zepeda card, said his promotional partner Tom Brown and Golden Boy's Eric Gomez are in discussions with Davis's representatives. A formal proposal is expected within the next few days, he said.

WBA mandates lightweight title fight

"That's a fight that Floyd always wanted," De La Hoya said, per the report. "It's a great fight. Floyd, people have seen him fight, he's performed very well. He's surprised a lot of people and this is a natural fight for him next."

The WBA reportedly ordered the bout as a mandatory challenge, which De La Hoya called "music to my ears." He added that Davis would be highly motivated to take the fight and predicted fans would embrace the matchup.

De La Hoya also addressed Ryan Garcia's recent social media announcement of a fight with Conor Benn, noting that Golden Boy has received no official contact from Benn's promoter, Zuffa Boxing, or Dana White. "We're Ryan's promoter and we haven't heard anything," he said, adding that fighters sometimes announce bouts on their platforms before deals are finalized. De La Hoya said he would work with any promoter, including White, to deliver the fight Garcia wants.

The Roach-Zepeda card is set for August 1, while the Davis-Schofield proposal is expected to arrive later this week.
