Oscar Collazo gets new opponent as Neider Valdez steps in
Oscar Collazo has a new opponent for Saturday night after original challenger Joey Canoy ran into visa trouble.
Mexico's Neider Valdez will step in to face the unbeaten champion in the DAZN main event, according to a Bad Left Hook report citing Lance Pugmire. The WBA and WBO have not yet confirmed whether they will sanction the replacement bout as a title fight.
Valdez comes in on short notice after Canoy withdrawal
Miguel Cotto Promotions initially tried to slot in Luis Castillo as a replacement, but he also lacked the necessary visa. Golden Boy then secured Valdez, who presents a far different challenge on paper than the originally scheduled opponent.
Valdez brings a 15-3-3 record with 12 knockouts but arrives in rough form. He has gone 2-3-1 over his last six outings, including losses to contenders Erik Badillo and Erick Rosa. His most recent appearance was a six-round draw against Gerardo Rodriguez on May 30.
Collazo, who holds a 14-0 mark with 11 stoppages, will enter as a heavy favorite. The bout is scheduled for Saturday with streaming coverage on DAZN.
