Osbourne Refused To Tap Despite Deep Twister
Ode Osbourne was ready to accept a spinal injury rather than tap out to Cody Durden at UFC Vegas 123.
The flyweights met Saturday at Meta Apex in Las Vegas, where Durden secured a unanimous decision after controlling the grappling exchanges. Osbourne survived a dangerous twister in the opening frame but told fans on Instagram that escaping the hold sapped his gas tank and left him hurting for the final two rounds.
Flyweight Says Submission Left Him Compromised
Osbourne acknowledged how close Durden came to finishing him. "I remember thinking to myself, 'Yo, this twister is deep,'" he said, as reported by Sherdog. But he remained unwilling to concede. The Jamaican fighter said the physical toll of defending the submission made it difficult to compete effectively afterward, draining both his energy and leaving his body compromised.
Osbourne said Durden leaned on wrestling throughout and avoided standup exchanges. He plans to have his back evaluated and is hopeful the damage is not severe. Osbourne promised to come back improved from the setback.
