Olympic Gold Medalists Who Won UFC Titles: Cejudo, Rousey

More than a dozen fighters have stepped from the Olympic podium into the UFC Octagon, though only two traded gold medals for championship belts. Henry Cejudo won freestyle wrestling gold at 21 in Beijing, then claimed titles at flyweight and bantamweight. Ronda Rousey earned back-to-back judo golds in London and Rio before her bantamweight reign launched women's MMA into the mainstream.

Daniel Cormier reached the semifinals at the Athens Games in 2004 and later captained the U.S. wrestling squad in Beijing. His Olympic run ended early due to health issues, but his UFC career produced heavyweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">light heavyweight and heavyweight titles plus a Hall of Fame induction. Dan Henderson competed in Greco-Roman wrestling at two Olympics without medaling, then became one of the sport's most durable legends. Mark Coleman placed seventh in Barcelona before winning two UFC tournaments and the inaugural heavyweight strap.

Taekwondo and Judo Stars Who Crossed Over

Kayla Harrison became the first American to win Olympic judo gold in London, repeated the feat in Rio, then joined the UFC at UFC 300 with a second-round stoppage of Holly Holm. Robelis Despaigne took bronze in taekwondo for Cuba at London 2012 and needed just 18 seconds to win his Octagon debut in March 2024. Ben Askren placed seventh in Beijing as a freestyle wrestler, later went 18-0 on the regional circuit, and submitted Robbie Lawler with a bulldog choke in his UFC bow.

Australia's Daniel Kelly holds the record for most Olympic appearances among UFC fighters. He represented his country four times in judo between Sydney 2000 and London 2012, coached the national team at the next two Games, then compiled a 6-4 UFC mark with wins over Rashad Evans and Antônio Carlos Júnior. Kevin Jackson won freestyle gold in Barcelona, entered the Octagon at UFC 14 as only the second gold medalist to do so, and won the heavyweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">light heavyweight tournament before dropping a title bid to Frank Shamrock five months later.

Heavyweight Arjan Bhullar became the first Indian to compete for Canada in Olympic wrestling at London 2012, turned pro two years later, and posted a 3-1 UFC record. Juan Adams, Marcelo Golm, and Luis Henrique all fell to Bhullar during his run. Olympic rosters continue feeding the roster as combat sports crossover remains one of MMA's most reliable pipelines.
