Nurmagomedov Mocks Jones After Steveson's Shocking Loss

Usman Nurmagomedov fired back at Jon Jones over the weekend after watching Gable Steveson get knocked out in the opening seconds of UFC 331.

Steveson, who Jones corners regularly, fell to Sean Sharaf via left hook just moments into their heavyweight bout in Los Angeles. Jones walked Steveson out of the cage immediately after the finish instead of staying to congratulate Sharaf's team during the official announcement. The loss marked Steveson's first career defeat and came as one of the year's biggest upsets.

Nurmagomedov References Shanghai Celebration

Nurmagomedov posted to Instagram shortly after the knockout, calling out Jones for perceived hypocrisy. "You know what a boomerang is, Jon? S--- happens," he said, per BJ Penn.com. "Good luck to your boyfriend in the future!" The jab referenced Jones' cageside celebration with Song Yadong at UFC Shanghai weeks earlier, when Yadong stopped Usman's cousin Umar Nurmagomedov while the Nurmagomedov team attended to their fighter.

Neither Jones nor Steveson has responded to the comment. Nurmagomedov defended his PFL lightweight title against Archie Colgan earlier this year and reportedly declined the promotion's initial free agency offer. He could land in the UFC next.

Jones said after UFC 331 that he takes some responsibility for how Steveson's corner exit unfolded, though he remains confident the former Olympic gold medalist will rebound from the setback.
