Ngannou Returns With First-Round Knockout of Lins
Francis Ngannou marked his return to MMA with a first-round knockout of Philipe Lins , finishing the fight at 4:31 of the opening round.
The fight followed a pattern familiar to anyone who has watched Ngannou work. He was measured in the early exchanges, allowing Lins to find the centre of the cage and initiate contact while Ngannou picked his spots. An outside leg kick opened the account, combinations followed, and when Lins shot for a takedown Ngannou stuffed it and took top position. Back on the feet, the two traded along the cage — right hands to the body from Ngannou, an overhand right from Lins that landed clean — before Ngannou timed a counter right that shut the lights out immediately.
The return raises the obvious questions about what comes next. Jon Jones was sitting behind the analyst desk watching. The fight that never happened during Ngannou's UFC tenure remains one of the sport's great unresolved matchups, and a first-round knockout on a Netflix card in front of a large audience is precisely the kind of statement performance that keeps that conversation alive.
“I’ve got to focus on getting out of my UFC contract. I don’t think Dana’s interested in doing business with Francis so doing it with MVP would probably be the only way to make it happen if we can get out of my contract. That would be great.
“Tonight Francis looked good but he also fought against a guy who weighed 220lb, that guy was afraid to engage with Francis. He definitely wasn’t on the same level of kickboxing as Francis. But I thought Francis was very impressive.
“He’s starting to throw kicks, he threw some really nice low kicks tonight so I’m just excited to see what’s next for him,” Jones said
