Diaz Accuses Danis Of Self-Inflicted Injury

Nate Diaz believes Dillon Danis deliberately injured himself to avoid facing Mike Perry last August.

Danis pulled out of the Duel Arena 1 main event two days before the scheduled bout, citing a shoulder injury. Perry ended up fighting short-notice replacement Brandon Jenkins and lost after suffering an early dislocation. Speaking at the launch event for Scott Coker's new Ki MMA promotion, Diaz dismissed Danis as a legitimate fighter and suggested the injury was self-inflicted.

Diaz Calls Danis Ineligible Opponent

"He cut himself open just not to fight," Diaz told MMA Junkie and other reporters at the event. "That's crazy to me." The former UFC welterweight also questioned why anyone would take a fight with Danis in the first place, calling him ineligible and saying fans keep falling for his antics.

Danis posted graphic images of his injured shoulder on social media after withdrawing from the Perry fight. The Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist has a history of controversies, including a disqualification loss to Logan Paul in a boxing match and a brawl with Khamzat Chimaev's team at a Real American Freestyle event.

Diaz said he has no interest in fighting Danis because he doubts the social media personality would show up. The two traded barbs online following the Duel Arena 1 cancellation, with Danis making personal claims about Diaz and his brother Nick.

Perry reportedly took a massive pay cut when Danis withdrew and Jenkins stepped in on two days' notice. No rematch between Perry and Danis has been announced.
