Musumeci Targeting UFC Flyweight Title After MMA Switch

Mikey Musumeci is preparing to leave elite grappling for mixed martial arts and has his sights set on the UFC flyweight championship.

The 30-year-old jiu-jitsu specialist defeated Bryce Mitchell at UFC BJJ 11 last week and afterward disclosed his intention to make an MMA debut in the near future, per Sherdog. Musumeci told Ariel Helwani in a video posted Monday that winning the 125-pound title remains his ultimate goal, though he acknowledged the journey ahead. "My goal would be to go to the UFC at 125 pounds and win that belt," Musumeci said. "I have a lot of work to do before then. That's us seeing super far ahead. One match at a time. Let's get my level up, let's get me not to get killed standing and let's get me to the floor."

Musumeci's Focus on Striking Development

Musumeci is currently concentrating on building his standup arsenal to avoid getting stopped before he can secure takedowns. He expressed confidence that fans will be surprised by his progress when he finally steps into the cage.

The grappling standout reportedly had an MMA bout scheduled for the day after his win over Mitchell, but that fight fell through. According to Sherdog, Musumeci is now in discussions with multiple promotions about booking his debut.
