Motono Retains Pancrase Title With 50-Plus Punches

Miki Motono retained her strawweight Queen of Pancrase title with a second-round TKO of Satomi Takano at Pancrase 366 in Tokyo on Tuesday. Motono landed more than 50 consecutive punches from the scarf-hold position to force the stoppage at 4:09 of the round, per Sherdog.

Takano, the reigning atomweight champion, saw her bid to become a two-division titleholder end under the barrage. The southpaw Motono connected with hard straight left hands throughout the first round, repeatedly winning the boxing exchanges even after Takano secured a brief takedown off a caught kick.

Motono Credits Teammate's Doubt For Finish

Takano took Motono down again in the second round but Motono reversed immediately into scarf-hold. From there, the champion unloaded dozens of punches to the face of a defenseless Takano, who refused to tap to two armlock attempts before referee intervention. After the fight, Motono revealed that a teammate who doubted she could finish Takano provided extra motivation to stop the fight inside the distance.

Motono improved to 11-5 and extended her winning streak to three since making her Pancrase debut earlier this year. She previously held the interim Deep Jewels title in 2020. Takano dropped to 20-15 in the loss.

In the co-main event, flyweight Queen of Pancrase champion Shizuka Sugiyama won her retirement bout with a unanimous decision over Emi Fujino, ending an 18-year career. The event takes place ahead of Pancrase 367, scheduled for later this fall.
