Moses Itauma to face Filip Hrgovic in August at O2 Arena
Moses Itauma has landed the test he has been chasing, reportedly set to meet Filip Hrgovic on August 29 at London's O2 Arena.
Sky Sports reports that a formal announcement is expected via press conference early next week. The 21-year-old Itauma, unbeaten in 14 fights with 12 knockouts, stopped Jermaine Franklin in five rounds this past March to extend his knockout streak to 10 consecutive finishes. Despite that run, Itauma has repeatedly voiced frustration over the difficulty of securing opponents willing to share the ring with him.
Hrgovic brings heavyweight credentials to summer showdown
Hrgovic brings a 20-1 record with 15 knockouts and represents a significant step up in class for the young British prospect. The Croatian heavyweight last fought in May, stopping David Allen inside three rounds, and is widely viewed as a legitimate threat to test whether Itauma's rapid ascent has outpaced his seasoning.
The matchup pairs one of the division's most talked-about rising talents against a proven contender with the experience to expose gaps. If the bout materializes as reported, Itauma will get his answer on whether his power and pedigree translate against heavyweight-level opposition at the end of summer.
