Moicano Refuses To Blame Miragliotta After UFC Vegas 123 Loss
Renato Moicano refused to join the criticism of referee Dan Miragliotta following his controversial loss at UFC Vegas 123.
Nolan stopped Moicano in Saturday's main event after Miragliotta stood the fighters up from a dominant position. Moicano had been working for a rear-naked choke when the referee reset the action, and Nolan finished the fight moments later. Daniel Cormier, calling the bout on commentary, was among many who questioned the decision.
Moicano Takes Responsibility For UFC Vegas 123 Defeat
Moicano addressed the sequence in a YouTube video posted after the fight, turning his focus inward rather than blaming the official. "What am I going to do? Get angry at the world? Curse out the referee? Start a war?" he said, per MMA Fighting. The Brazilian lightweight admitted he underestimated Nolan's ability to defend submissions and credited his opponent for the win.
"Life goes on. There will be other fights. I will get better," Moicano said. "It's either win or improve. I have a lot to improve on."
The loss dropped Moicano to 1-3 in his last four outings. He has previously stated plans to fight out his UFC contract and explore free agency, making the recent slide a complication as he looks to rebuild momentum.
