McGregor Will Confirm His Next Fight On New Year’s Day
As MMA fans wait for his return, Conor McGregor’s next fight will become clear on New Year’s Day.
Conor McGregor’s future has been in doubt since his loss and injury against Dustin Poirier. During the UFC 264 clash, McGregor broke his leg. The injury was career-threatening, keeping him out of action for an extended period. McGregor hoped to return in 2023 as a fight with Michael Chandler was teased. However, he faced other issues.
His failure to abide by the USADA testing meant he could not fight in 2023. Under the rules, he must give two negative tests over six months before qualifying to fight. He has entered the testing pool, but there are doubts about the flight date. McGregor wanted to return at UFC 300, which takes place in April.
Dana White dismissed that as a summer return was mentioned. This is understandable since McGregor does not have belts. And yet, McGregor was very vocal about how unhappy he was feeling. That caused Dana White to respond, stating that his future would become clear soon.
McGregor Vs. White
“Give me something. I’m supposed to be back in April. It was supposed to be December. For all the figures I’ve brought in this game, I sell more than all of them combined. No one in the history of the fight game has been treated the way I’ve been getting treated at this minute.
"From what I came through, to what I bring. They f****** should open the floodgates for me. I’m waiting. And my patience is wearing thin on me waiting. Get me back in there. It’s f*cking bollocks,” McGregor said. “The Mac has loads to offer, loads to deliver, ” McGregor stated
“I talked to Conor today. I’m in Abu Dhabi right now, Conor’s in Dubai. We talked tonight. He and I will get something figured out soon. We’re talking,” White revealed
McGregor’s Announcement
Now McGregor has something planned. The opponent will likely be Michael Chandler since they have been linked with a fight after competing on the TUF 31 series as rival coaches. Chandler won the season as his team secured more wins over McGregor.
But when it came to the challenge between the coaches, McGregor came out on top. There are plenty of questions heading into such a fight. Will McGregor be the same fighter, given he has been out with a severe injury for so long? At the same time, Chandler has not fought in over a year since his loss to Poirier. Those questions will be addressed as McGregor confirmed his next steps.
“I will be announcing my fight date and opponent on New Years Day, 2024. The Greatest Comeback in Sports History,” McGregor said
The anticipation is building for McGregor’s return, but will he be able to put on a performance that once made him a two-weight world champion? With three losses out of his last four UFC fights, he faces the pressure to win. ‘Find all the latest boxing news and MMA breaking updates on boxingnews.com’
